MAZDA CX30 AT NAPLETON'S MAZDA OF URBANA

The Mazda CX30 is not a contradiction in terms. It is a large subcompact Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) in much the same vein as jumbo shrimp. And in addition to looking good, it's also damn fun to drive.

What is the Mazda CX30?

A good looking subcompact, the Mazda CX30 is one of the newer SUVs on the road today. It's definitely one of the most fun vehicles to drive, too. It gets its motivation from a 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. There is a second version available with the CX30 Premium AWD that offers cylinder deactivation and, in the process, gives AWD fuel economy that rivals most front-wheel-drive vehicles. That's a win in our books!

The engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Between that and the AWD configuration, it's a vehicle that can take you almost anywhere.

A Walkaround with the Mazda CX30

Once designed for a specific purpose, the new Mazda CX30 is part of a group of subcompact SUVs that have burst upon the scene to record success. Loaded with personality, they are some of the most likable vehicles on the road.

Strikingly good looking, the CX30 is a result of the brand's "Soul of Motion" design language. Featuring curves that flow and lines that make this Subcompact SUV appear more like a sports sedan, it gets down to design basics. Some of the lines are so subtle that you need to walk around the CX30 before they actually become apparent.

Base trim levels include 16-inch alloy wheels and a muffled appearance from the grille. Step up to the higher trim levels to graduate to 18-inch wheels. The Preferred trim level steps it up even more by offering a gloss front grille, LED headlights with LED taillight accents and roof rails. 

Inside the Mazda CX30

Constructed using fine craftsmanship and materials, the CX30 is in a class by itself. The result is a vehicle that appears much more expensive than it really is. There is a choice of elegant upholsteries, with seats in cloth, leatherette, and genuine leather. These seats are designed to emulate the natural curvature of the spine. Each CX30 model is complete with the Mazda Connect infotainment system and an 8.8-inch touchscreen display. 

Controls on the narrow dash are redundant and placed with an aluminum rotary control on the center console. Placement is more logical from this position, as it is where your hand would naturally fall while driving. The whole point is to keep your eyes on the road ahead. 

Loaded with features!

All models of the CX30 feature the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Base interior includes cloth-covered seating with power windows and door locks, plus keyless entry. Mazda Connect, the company's connectivity suite, is standard on every CX30 model and includes the 8.8-inch screen, multifunction controller and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available on all trims above the base model. 

Driver assists and safety features of the Mazda CX30 include front seat kneebags, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with stop and go. Other safeties include lane-keeping assist and automatic high-beam headlights. Blind-spot monitors, as well as rear cross-traffic alert, are available options.

Other available options include Mazda all-wheel-drive, a head-up display, moonroof, power rear liftgate, 12 speaker audio and navigation. It's everything you can think of to make the Mazda CX30 truly your very own.
